We are looking for a kind and reliable support worker, who will be supporting a patient with dementia for 12 hours per week. The client requires careful planning and consideration to ensure their safety, well-being, and engagement. The PA would be required to spend time with the client who has early to medium onset dementia.

 

The client  would like support with personal care on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for one hour each day:

This includes assisting with activities like bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. Ensuring the patient is clean, comfortable, and maintaining their personal hygiene.

 The  remaining 9 hours would be split flexibly for companionship care and support in to the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring patient safety at all times: Remain vigilant and attentive to the patient's needs and surroundings to prevent accidents or injuries
  • Engaging the patient in activities: Encourage participation in activities that stimulate cognition and promote social interaction. Going for walks in the community can also provide opportunities for fresh air.
  • Building rapport and providing emotional support: Establishing a trusting relationship with the patient is crucial. Show empathy, patience, and understanding in your interactions, and provide emotional support when needed. Validate their feelings and reassure them during moments of confusion or distress.
  • Domestic duties/light housework: Perform light housekeeping tasks such as tidying up the living space.
  • Meal preparation: Prepare nutritious meals that meet the patient's dietary needs and preferences. It's important to encourage hydration and ensure they're getting adequate nutrition.
  • Companionship: Spending time together, building a trusting relationship, someone to be able to take the client out of the house. Ideally someone with a car, to take the client for walks in the park, cafe, look around the shops, etc. Promoting movement and exercise, as well as general human interaction
  • Patience: The PA needs to be patient and understanding as the client has difficulties in communicating.

Experience with dementia would be preferable.

The PA will need to take the client out  for a few hours, Ideally every Monday and Friday afternoon. Between the hours of 1-3pm.

 

The job is based In Orpington in the BR5 area.

PA Rate is : £14.70 per hour
